Projects for the Spring
- growing vegetables for tastings in the cafeteria
- compost bin building — we’re increasing our composting to include the street trees’ leaves and all of our garden’s stems and leaves
- sustainable water collection and watering system — we’re building a rainwater capture system out in the garden to try to have water all year and reduce the amt. of NYC water we use.
- vertical gardening — the best sun in the yard hits a tall fence so we try to grow there as much as possible
- the 2nd floor large containers — veggies and herbs fill 8 39″ square containers, some in a temporary greenhouse.
Spring Planning
It’s been an amazing and busy year at the PS11 garden. Bulbs were donated, compost was delivered, annuals and perennials were planted, mulch was added along with many, many other projects. It’s now January and we’re planning for another busy Spring.
If you’re a garden committee member or an interested PS11 parent, please come to our planning meeting on Friday, January 15th just after drop off in the cafeteria. If you can’t attend the meeting and you’re still interested in participating, email lauren [at] gillgraphicdesign [dot] com.
